Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests show the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for information.
A senior official stated the incident rendered him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
